It's that time of year! Some of us have headed out on vacations and trips to see graduations of loved ones, tour some of our nations great sites and/or gone off to visit relatives and friends and, if possible, visit a Lodge they have never been to, or at least tour the Lodge. We have missed some of our regular attendees who have gone off on adventures.
It's also that time of year when the weather can change from one extreme to the other. We are very grateful the latest heatwave has subsided and we are back with livable temperatures again. Thankfully, during May the weather was wonderful. A cleanup of the picnic grounds was held when we had good weather. The job done for another year.
SW Steve Ricketts and his family have been busy at the lodge during their spare time. He's repaired some plumbing in the men's restroom and made repairs to the electrical box in the basement that had been tampered with when our basement was broken into. We so appreciate the care and attention he and his family have given to this Lodge. There have been a long line of people, over the years, who have loved and cared for this little lodge. We are thankful for every one of them.

Upcoming Events:
One upcoming event, that I know of, will be the 4th of July parade, on July 4th, in Orland in which the Car Club members from Chico Shrine Club will be participating in.
Our Eastern Star Chapters have gone dark for July and August.
We've heard whispers of another Lodge that will be having a cave degree in September- ever been to one?
History Corner
Samuel Langhorne Clemens (November 30, 1835 – April 21, 1910)
I am forever learning new things, but that is what keeps life interesting and keeps my brain working, I think. Once again stumped by what I would put in the history corner, I accidentally came across an item that mentioned Mark Twain was a Mason. Really? Well, most of you probably know that but I didn't. Interesting I thought. Since we are also coming up on his Anniversary of being raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason - July 10th, 1861, I thought, well why not put him in the history corner. The man does have California connections, not Forbestown really, but yes, California. It is where he went from being Samuel Clemens to Mark Twain.
I also found it interesting that he petitioned the Polar Star Lodge No. 79 of St. Louis, Missouri, December 26 of 1860 and during that same Gold Rush era California had it's own Polar Star Lodge (No.90) on Poor Man's Creek in Onion Valley and St. Louis Lodge (No.86) in St. Louis, Sierra County which have consolidated into other mountain lodges which had then been consolidated into Forbestown Lodge which hangs on by sheer determination and through those that travel up from the valley to enjoy the quaintness of an old mountain Lodge. And don't you think that if you were sitting in Lodge with it's quaintness and it's candles glowing and you closed your eyes, that perhaps, just perhaps, you could see Brother Clemens sitting across the room from you in Lodge? So much for a link to the famous humorist. That is stretching it isn't it?
