September's Potluck and Meeting were lightly attended. We missed several of our regular attendees. Some were traveling and we hope the others are well and had a wonderful Labor Day weekend. Regardless of having a smaller group, the table was still loaded with wonderful food! Laverne Daley brought up the sliced homegrown tomatoes that we have always loved. Every year Bob would plant tomatoes and bring them up for everyone to enjoy. This year their son planted the tomatoes for Laverne. What a treasure she brought us. Just the sight of the tomatoes stirred up memories of Bob.
We were all delightfully surprised with having hot water! Yes, Forbestown is a tiny mountain lodge and has for years heated their water on the stove. Our Junior Warden Steve Ricketts and his sons have been busy at the Lodge! He installed the water-heater and they cleaned the brass and repainted the candle stands in Lodge. We love this family as they work so hard and do so much for our little Lodge! It's so wonderful to have hot water! |
September we celebrate Constitution Day
In September of 1787, the Founding Fathers signed the most influential document in American history:
the United States Constitution.
One way to celebrate is to attend the parade and other events in Nevada City held this year on September 10th & 11th.
We were able to attend the events at Nevada City Lodge and the parade one year. It was quite enjoyable!
The Constitution Day Parade was conceived in 1967 by Col. Bill Lambert, a member of Nevada City Masonic Lodge No. 13.
Martin David Perry, Grand Master of Masons in California (2016), has been named as Grand Marshal of the 50th Annual Nevada City Constitution Day Parade.

WILLIAM HOWARD TAFT
William Howard Taft, 27th President (1909-1913), was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, September 15,1857. Unique among Masonic Presidents, he was made a Mason "at sight," at Cincinnati, Ohio, February 18, 1909, in an Emergent Lodge called together for the purpose. At five O'clock in the afternoon Grand Mast Charles S Hoskinson personally administered the obligations and esoteric instructions. That evening Taft witnessed the Master's degree conferred by Kilwinning Lodge No.356, of Cincinnati, which elected him to membership April 14, 1909.
Famous Initiation
Gerald R Ford was initiated into Masonry in Malta Lodge No.465, Grand Rapids, Michigan, on September 30, 1949.
