FROM THE EAST
It is February in Forbestown and here we are again. Another term as Master for me, so lets make it fun. The Deep Pit BBQ is already in the works so June 8th is the day you should put on your calendar. We are going bigger and better this year. Along with a great BBQ we will also have 2 live bands, children's activities, a bounce house and a raffle. All of the raffle proceeds will go to the Forbestown Christmas Basket program, which brings food to hungry families in the area. So remember June 8th, it is looking to be a great day. Other than that the Lodge is trucking along. Come on down for Stated Meetings and Potluck Dinner on the first Saturday of every month at 6:30 p.m.
Fraternally yours, Steve Ricketts Worshipful Master |
If you found yourself blessed with another birthday or anniversary we hope it was a joyous occasion for you!
ON A SAD NOTE
In Memory of our Brother Jim Gill's Mother
Myrle "MIKE" Gill who recently passed away. The Ladies become a treasured part of Forbestown Lodge. They faithfully attend potluck bringing cherished dishes to the gathering. A couple of our favorites brought by Mike was her Frog Eye Salad and her Moon Pie. Mike was no stranger to the Masonic Family. Her late husband and her son Jim have both served as Worshipful Master and Mike, herself, was Eastern Star Past Matron of Janesville and Gridley. She was a constant presence and supporter of the North Butte Masonic Lodge #230 where many affectionately referred to Mike as the Lodge Mom. Mike made many of the rounds of different Lodge functions, such as our potluck, with her son Jim. She will be truly missed by an amazing amount of Masonic Family Members! A Celebration of Life will be held at North Butte Masonic Lodge #230, corner of Sycamore and Vermont Streets, April 20th. |

With the passing of Mike Gill my thoughts were of all the ladies who have touched my life, our lives, through the Forbestown Potluck. I am not sure when the Lodge began with their Stated Meeting tradition of having Pot Luck. I seem to recall that Laverne Daley mentioned she alone cooked for all the Brothers when Bob was Worshipful Master and also Loretta Larson doing the same when Marvin was Worshipful. I texted with Harry Liebhauser's daughter, Amy, she did not recall the potluck tradition, but what she did remember was whenever there was a Lodge event that involved the families, those events were generally a group cooking effort with folks bringing desserts. Mostly she remembered that Shirley Barr, wife of Bob Barr, made pies by the truckload and they were the best! No pie was beyond her talent! They were holding Potluck by the time we came along around ten years ago. There were some amazing ladies bringing some amazing dishes and Dan Norton's lady, Vivian, made some amazing desserts including a lemon meringue pie that disappeared in a heartbeat. It seemed every lady found her niche in what to bring. Amazing dishes of all kinds have graced the food table. These ladies are all a part of the Lodge history. They continue to keep the potluck going and help with the Lodge's BBQ. We enjoy each others company and the "hen fest" that ensues when the Brothers have gone into their meeting. We truly miss those who are no longer a part of the monthly festivities. This little article is a salute to all of the ladies past and present. May you always be thought of and remembered for your contribution to the well being of this little historical Lodge and the wonderful conversations you contributed to during our "hen fest". |
