Greetings from the East,
July was a slow month, but the time off was well needed. August 4th brought us Forbestown Daze which was a great celebration. From the line of classic cars to the backwoods thrown together trucks, it all made for a great parade. The Forbestown Museum was in full effect with the pioneer town, gun fight re-enactment and even a working blacksmith. The Elevation Church had bounce houses , slip and slides and free backpacks full of school supplies for the kids. There were plenty of vendors with all kinds of great handmade items for sale. It was an awesome day for everyone to enjoy. On October 6th instead of a potluck we will have a Widows Dinner, followed by the Ceremony of Lights put on by Liberty Chapter Order of DeMolay. It will be a great night for all, so please come and join us. Dinner will be at 6:30 with the Ceremony of Lights to follow and stated meeting afterwards. Hope to see you all there. Some have asked if Forbestown will be having Stated on the 1st of September as it is a 3 day weekend. Yes, there will be the usual potluck at 6:30 and Stated follows at 7:30. The ladies, as usual, will be chatting and solving world issues in the dining hall till Stated is finished.
We hope all those who had/have August and September birthdays or anniversaries had/have a wonderful celebration!
The History Corner
- Every once and while, (more often than I care to acknowledge) I mess up dates or misread something. That happened almost two weeks ago. We took a drive up to Quincy to attend an Eastern Star Friendship meeting to be put on by the Mountain Star Chapter. Well, in all actuality, this meeting is not until SEPTEMBER 8th at 2 p.m. My mistake... that's a lot of miles to drive only to find out that you have your dates messed up and that this Historic Lodge building is locked up tight... sigh. I sure would love to see the inside and have taken pictures to display but that sure didn't happen. Fortunately we were comfortably dressed for the drive and I had packed some sandwiches and snacks and cold drinks because I was hoping to take our time coming home and see some of the high country sights making the loop through La Porte.... We were blessed with a lovely day and kept the spirit of adventure with us instead of bemoaning the blundered date. Quincy has a wonderful Historical building and it must be fairly active as there was a note posted on the door about a pancake breakfast on some date. I will have to do a little History research on this building.
