The traveling gavel made it's appearance at Forbestown in July. Always fun to have it show with the accompanying visitors! It was promptly passed along during the next available stated meeting elsewhere, it never sits long in Forbestown. Having visitors, even if they bring the gavel along, is always a pleasure. Lots of good conversation and good food to be had at potluck. The ladies always enjoy their time visiting after the gentlemen go into meeting....
Summer has really flown by and we're approaching the time of year where the Lodges and OES Chapters that were dark are going to be active again. Coming with these additional gatherings will be the approaching holidays. Unbelievable! It's also time for thinking and or planning installation of Officers for 2017! Wow! 2017.
September also brings the final three day weekend of summer, the last "hurrah" as some say. It is also the weekend that Forbestown has it's September meeting. There will be no changes in the meeting day or time. Same as usual. We hope you will be able to make it! Come feast with us on food and friendship!

An Emblem is a representation of something unknown or concealed by a sign or a thing that is known. For instance, the Square in Freemasonry is an Emblem of morality, the Plumb Rule an Emblem for uprightness of conduct, and the Level an Emblem for Equality.
Although the words Emblem and Symbol are many times used synonymously, the words don’t express exactly the same meaning.
A Symbol is more extensive in its application; it includes every representation of an idea by an image. So what makes something a Symbol? They are Symbols because they stand for something else or remind us of something. For instance, the Octagon shape of a stop sign is a Symbol we all recognize. The American Flag is a Symbol of the United States of America. So Symbols are kind of like a quick way to remind us of something.
We could say that while all Emblems are Symbols, all Symbols are not Emblems.

The History Corner Have you heard of the Temple Church? Maybe? Probably. I hadn't. I read about this church just this year. An internet discovery of mine that I came across without actually looking for it. That happens to me on occasion. The words Knight Templar reached out and grabbed me. I need to see this! Besides the architecture was simply beautiful. I love old buildings. Famed for its rare circular nave called "the Round," it was built by the Knights Templar in the 12th century. The Temple Church is located between Fleet Street and the River Thames. It's denomination - The Church of England. Shakespeare knew this church and included it in a scene in Henry VI, Part One. The church also figures prominently in Dan Brown's controversial novel The Da Vinci Code. Here is a bit of information from the webpage of this Church. http://www.templechurch.com/ Timeline1185-1307: The Knights Templar The Temple Church was consecrated in honour of the Blessed Virgin Mary on 10 February 1185 by Heraclius, Patriarch of Jerusalem… 1185: The Round Church On 10 February 1185 Heraclius, Patriarch of Jerusalem, processed into the Round for the church’s consecration. The King was almost certainly present… The Fall of the Templars Little more than fifty years after the consecration of the chancel, the Templars fell on evil times. The Holy Land was recaptured by the Saracens and so their work came to an end. The following link is to a site with photos and a history which I enjoyed. https://flickeringlamps.com/2015/02/21/temple-church-the-hidden-church-founded-by-the-knights-templar/ |
