Summer's End.....
|
It seems that August has flown by to a fairly quiet end. Hard to believe that we are heading into the fall season! Let's pray it is a wet one. Our month of August did consist of more than Stated Meeting. Forbestown was excited to hold another initiation! This is our second one this year. Welcome Brother Andy Buelna! Also a big THANK YOU to our brethren that took the time and traveled up to participate in the initiation! Your participation is appreciated and it is always great to see you! Seems that first time Master - Worshipful John is having to learn it all his first year! Forbestown Lodge also participated as a small group in the annual Forbestown Daze Parade. It is more than just a parade. The town activities begin at 9 a.m. The event is always held the first Saturday of August. It was great to see the crowds at the museum touring the displays which also included our Masonic family display. The last day for the display - August 30th from noon to 4.

Life becomes a bit melancholy at times. Things change.... Change is inevitable and sometimes difficult to accept, but we move on. This past month the home of Past Master Charles Zirion sold. We can see the metal roof of Charlie and his beloved Myra's home through the trees of our place. It has been empty for many years now and probably will not remain much longer. Built as many homes were "back in the day" on cedar stumps... these homes don't meet code and have to have major work done or be taken down. Amazingly some of these homes have stood since the gold rush days on those old stumps.
I only met Charlie once and never knew his Myra but I can tell you she loved it up here. Clipper Mills was her home. Meeting Charlie only once, I didn't know him either, really, but I do... I know both he and Myra from the memories of WM John. I know that Charlie was his school bus driver. I know that Charlie, who seemed to be the size of "Hoss" to this young boy, rode a little Honda motorcycle and coming through Mrs. Fords "s" curves past her house, Mrs. Ford's dog would run out and chase Charlie. He was going to cure that dog of this bad habit and filled a squirt gun with ammonia to discourage the dog from chasing him. Charlie fell off of his Honda when he tried to cure the dog. Myra often worked in the family store... It's a church here now. WM John used to come to the store with his Dad who would sometimes play dominoes at the counter with Myra while Worshipful kept himself busy. On one of those occasions Worshipful kept running in and out through the glass doors hitting them with outstretched arms and hands as he came through. He has quite a bit of allowance invested in one of those doors! Guess they weren't made to be hit repeatedly... A fond memory for Worshipful - he can still see Charlie in his truck and Myra right next to him in it. She was always right next to him. |
