We would like to thank all those who come up and support Forbestown.
So many wonderful friends!
February and March have proved to be a bit hectic. Cold/Flu season seemed to be in full swing and then the rains came. The county and mountain roads were flooding and Oroville dam proved to be a big distraction! I don't believe any of Forbestown's members were in evacuated areas, but getting around anywhere proved to be a challenge! Due to evacuations of Yuba, Butte and Sutter Counties most of us were trapped at home. Those of us who were shopping or visiting when the evacuations were announced, had long arduous drives ahead of them. Just to get from Chico back to our mountains took one acquaintance of mine over 8 hours for a normally one hour drive. So thankful we were at home and aside from being a bit short on milk and eggs, we were fine.
Those of us higher up in elevation had to deal with creeks overflowing the roads, road-slides, sinkholes etc... I guess most of you were aware of that. Anyway, it has been a beautiful week and it is wonderful to have a lovely spring day for St. Patrick's day. Our colds are gone and it is wonderful to be out and about on such lovely days. We hope all is well with everyone.

In Memorial
The DeMolay group in our area is Liberty Chapter in Marysville. Steve Ricketts S.W. of Forbestown No.50, has two sons that are active in this group. I think I have mentioned that before. They meet every 2nd and 4th Monday at 7p.m. at the Lodge in Marysville. They are quite the active group. March activities included - participation in the Bok Kai parade, which took place the beginning of this month, a hiking trip and celebrating Devotional Day at Six Flags Vallejo with all of Northern California DeMolays. In April they will play paintball and have an Installation Of Officers bringing to end Christopher Ricketts term as Master Councilor. If you would like more info on DeMolay, come to one of their meetings or visit NorcalDeMolay.com

The History Corner
In February we celebrate Presidents day and I love the history of both Washington and Lincoln. Seeing as I missed creating the February Trestle, I thought I would go ahead and honor Presidents Day with a bit of history on President Washington. I found this bit of history at the following link All Things Masonic
All Things Masonic is a web page by the Past Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Minnesota AF&FM Happy Birthday Brother George Washington! While researching information regarding Brother George Washington, an interesting fact is that he was born in accordance of the Julian calendar, which was the calendar used at the time of his birth, February 11, 1731. According to the Gregorian calendar, adopted in 1752, George Washington’s birth date was February 22, 1732. Brother George Washington was an honored and respected Mason. At the age of 20, Washington was initiated as Apprentice on November 4, 1752 in Fredericksburg, VA. It was with his compassionate nature, appreciation and understanding of the Masonic system that he flourished, and on August 4, 1754 George Washington was raised to Master Mason. As his character suggests he was a ‘Just and Upright Mason’. In his Presidential and Masonic career he presided in the cornerstone ceremony for the US Capitol in 1793. George Washington was noted as a noble opponent, as well as a Brother. This was witnessed while a British traveling Lodge fell into the hands of American forces after being defeated; chests belonging to the British Lodge with contents of jewels and other treasures were ultimately surrendered to the American forces. Upon learning this, George Washington with his elegance and honor demanded the contents to be returned to the Lodge and regiment. With this noble act he gained much respect from the opponents. On December 18, 1799 George Washington was laid to rest and buried at Mt. Vernon with Masonic rites. |
