June is gone, but with it we had warm weather and an awesome Deep Pit BBQ! For those of you who could not attend you missed a great time. The food was good, the people were wonderful, and the live music tied it all together. For those of you that did attend, tell your friends all about it for next year. This was my first time using a deep pit, and it was a very interesting experience. I have all kinds of ideas for next year. To all my Brethren and their families who helped make this a great event, I appreciate everything you did.
July's stated meeting is coming up on the 7th and I hope to see you all there, as always potluck at 6:30 pm and stated meeting to follow at 7:30 pm.

Who is responsible for this summer cold/flu bug making the rounds? I think it has touched everyone in the last couple of weeks and if not seems there are other issues affecting some of our dear Masonic family. We wish all of you a speedy recovery and hope there will be no more hospital visits for anyone!
Upcoming Events
At the moment I am not aware of any events that may be on the calendar. Let me know if I am wrong. Many of the other Masonic groups such as Eastern Star are dark for the summer months. I have not heard of any Degrees being put on in July. Information could change after Stated this Saturday.
The History Corner
My question was "why are Forbestown Lodge's picnic grounds dedicated to Robert F. Hines?" There is a story. I asked Brother Ralph Prater, PM, about it. Well, "back in the day" when things were booming in the mountains and in the Valley with dams and construction, our little Lodge needed more room for all the new members in the area. Apparently Brother Hines was key in securing this piece of mountain property for a new, larger lodge thus granting him the honor of having the park named after him. Where is the new Lodge? With the boom going bust there was no need to build a larger Lodge. Rather sad but we cherish our little historic Lodge. It is the only building in Forbestown, from the Gold Rush days, that is still standing.
Forbestown made use of the property by holding the deep-pit BBQ. In the beginning they used to dig the pit every time they held the BBQ. Eventually the permanent pit was built. Any of you that have had the experience of trying to shovel this red dirt, especially in the summer, will understand why the Brethren put in a permanent pit. Have a safe Fourth!
